I started my grad program yesterday, so please give me some time to answer emails and comments. I gave a quick lookthrough of fics and didn't find obvious placeholders. Yay! There were a few formatting/no space issues in a few fics I found, and plenty who were tagless (tags aren't mandatory, but highly recommended), but there's still time for that.

If you have a draft in the collection, please post it. Drafts can't be read by anyone but you and they do not count as fulfilling your assignment.

Treats over 1k can be placed in the Not Prime Time 2016 collection while treats under 1k and non-fic works can be placed in the Prime Time Madness 2016 collection.

If you are having some difficulty in coming up with tags for your story, here are some questions that might be helpful.

What kind of story is it? (Fluffy, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Character Study, etc)
Is it an AU? (There are several different type of Alternate Universe canonical tags)
Did you write about a threesome? (Specific types of threesome are canonical tags as well as just the regular Threesome tag)
Did you write porn? (There are plenty of canonical tags for various sexual acts)
What kind of relationship do your characters have with each other? (Friendship, Rivals, Siblings, Developing Relationship, etc)
What do your characters do? (There are plenty of canonical tags for events/situations)

If none of these sound like they could fit your story, there is always the option of refreshing the Random Tags page to see what pops up.

I don't understand the justification for instructing us to tag better. Isn't it the author's choice how much information they want to provide about their story before a reader dives in?

It is the author's choice, thus the reason why it's not mandatory. However, it is highly recommended to give people more information or entice more people to want to click on a fic. Some people don't finish adding their tags until later, or have a difficult time figuring out what to use as tags, which is why I offered some advice.

I don't think it's appropriate to position plastering a fic in tags as something recommended or as some kind of default approach to tagging, when there are different approaches to tagging out there. Plenty of us would rather not know everything about a fic from the tags before we read it, or tell readers everything about our own fic.

The issue shouldn't have anything to do with the fic exchange, and bringing it up there uses the role of admin to push your opinion and standard as though it's the norm, and that's not cool.

I'm not here to be lectured on the right way to do something that's totally subjective, and I'm commenting to offer an alternate opinion than that the only possible thing anyone could want to do is cover the fic in every tag available.

I've the backbone to put my name to my comments, and honestly? Didn't think twice about the icon; it's my default, I rarely bother to select.

EDIT: Might I also point out that I haven't insulted anyone, and I stand by my analysis of how the 'how to tag properly!' content functions, which is all that the above comment is. I'm not even saying that was the deliberate intention of the admin.

I'm of the opinion that knowledge is good, and people can take it or leave it since this isn't mandatory. It's up to the person, just as long as they know. I mention these things, along with forward dating like I will in a couple of days, because I want people to have as many eyeballs on their fics as possible and both tags and forward dating are highly recommended from me because it gives people a higher chance of getting said eyeballs from people who aren't following this exchange, especially since these are medium sized fandoms that may have grown rapidly to mega sized and by the time the collection opens, their fic is pages back on the fandom page. Does anyone have to do these things? No, of course not. But I will mention them, recommend them, and leave it up to the writer whether or not to do anything.

Some people want to tag to entice more people, but don't know how. That's fine and the suggestions above are for them. Some people want to tag, and know how to tag their fic/already tagged their fic. That's fine and they can disregard the suggestions above. Some people don't care about tagging their fic and that's fine too because they can disregard the suggestions above. Whoever found the post useful, used it. Those who didn't, didn't.

I understand that's how you feel, and that's perfectly fine, but as this is my exchange, I will continue bringing up things that might interest people, not because everyone should do it, but because it might help some people and I rather do that (and have other people ignore the thing because it doesn't refer to them), instead of not mentioning it at all.

I actually never mentioned that whatsoever. If you want my honest non-mod opinion, I actually think over 10 tags is too much on a fic. 5-10 is the sweet spot, maybe, depending on the type of fic. Could be less, could be more. Who knows? But if someone wants to use 20+ tags on a NPT fic, they are perfectly within the right to do so. Tagging isn't mandatory and, on the flip side, the amount people tag isn't regulated by me either.

Anonymous commenting is allowed in the NPT comms. I purposely don't have IP tracking to make people feel comfortable if they want to do so. That has nothing to do with backbones.

I thought I was done with all this, but I find my assignment defaulted this morning, even though it was complete and met all requirements. I don't know if it will do any good, but I have reported to AO3 that you abused your admin priviledges to default someone over a personal disagreement, and I will not hesitate to spread the word that you did this.

I saw your first PM to me yesterday morning, but was unable to respond as I had to go to campus and remained there for 14 hours going to lab and studying. When I returned, I saw your second PM that you didn't "want a dialogue" and you were "blocking everything." As you felt so strongly against me, especially since you thought I "championed an anon who only came into that thread to stir things," and your recipient had defaulted, I felt it best to default your assignment and reject your fic out of the collection. This way you were no longer associated with Not Prime Time, both for your sake and my own. Currently, your fic is still anon and I believe still unrevealed.

I also mentioned your icon once and that was to the anonymous comment saying I didn't care about your icon, in that I don't care what it says or looks like.

Not Prime Time has been my exchange since the beginning, over five years ago. As it is my exchange, I am within my rights to mod as I feel necessary. This includes providing information to participants who may find it useful, which includes suggestions on how to tag. I did the same thing last year. You keep, in both PMs and comments on this post, believing that I am forcing people to tag an excessive amount of tags on their fics, which I haven't. I even expressed my non-mod opinion on that agreeing with you about excessive tags. In your first PM, you wrote "I'm just trying to be genuine, honest, and speak up on a fandom issue I thought was important, because for some of us the spreading tendency to excess tag on AO3 is a definite do-not-want to encourage," and that's fine, but you are reading into my words things I did not say.

I allow anonymous commenting in the comms, and I felt the anonymous comment was a little blunt, so I gently reproached them because the comment wasn't needed.

I was unable to inform you because you had written in your second PM that you were blocking everything, which I assumed included myself from responding to you. I felt rejecting your fic from the collection was the best course of action for the both of us. You still have a gift in the collection, so I do ask that you read and comment on it because your author worked hard and I don't want them to receive backlash because you disagree with how I run my own exchange.

I mentioned in this post that I started my grad program, but today I will be home all day studying and editing my own fics. I won't be home much Sunday onward due to the nature of my grad program course load, if you need a timeframe of my schedule since yesterday I was gone for most of the day when you sent those PMs.

I don't see how the timeframe comes into it. I was prepared to drop discussion of it all and leave off, but I don't see how rejecting something I'd put so much work into comes across as a good solution whether the recipient defaulted or not. In the second PM I spoke about my effort to ensure the fic would be edited that evening in the archive. If I was putting so much visible effort into ensuring I'd fulfilled my signup, how on Earth does it come across as the right idea to default me? As anything other than an act meant as some kind of reprisal? If you would like to reinstate my assignment, I will agree to deleting the comments about the assignment deletion and the two posts on lj and dw [EDIT: And the AO3 complaint; forgot].

That is the best course of action, that is the one I would prefer, and since I spent time on a fic for my recipient, I would like that fic to go out in the archive to them, please.

I wouldn't dream of ignoring someone who'd put their own effort into writing a fic for me.

More additions, as it seems the initial quick response won't get me the quick resolution I'd hoped: I said that I did not want a dialogue because I felt that it would not help, after reflection - ie, neither of us is going to change our stance, discussing it was pointless, as the reiteration of ideas above proves.

Your comment to the anon holds no trace of chiding to my eyes. You even seemed pleased that they chose to post anonymously.

I would really like a yes/no answer now because I have to go out in a minute and I'd rather not leave those posts up there if the issue is resolved and I don't need to. Will my fic be reinstated? (If you have to re-assign it to me again, I can re-post, whichever.)

I posted my schedule so you knew I was at home to see your responses, but unfortunately I was away from the computer getting ready for the day when you both left this comment and two edits, as well as the second comment.

Your fic is still anon and unrevealed, and it still has the recipient's name attached to it, so it would get to your recipient if you didn't want Not Prime Time's name attached to it. If you want your fic back in the collection, I can do so, as long as you are okay that your fic is also associated with Not Prime Time (and indirectly myself) since you feel so strongly against it.

You can keep the comments and posts up. I don't care.
