If you know of a fandom that should be considered a megafandom (over 20,000 fics) but isn't on the list, please reply in a comment below along with a link to an archive/comm/etc. This is so a) we have digital evidence of a fandom's "mega" status instead of relying solely on word of mouth, b) it gives fans who weren't aware of where to find those fics an opportunity to find a new treasure trove, c) your mods aren't aware of every part of fandom and they will miss things that may be obvious to someone else in their corner of the net, so help is appreciated.

The megafandom list can be found either on LJ or on DW

The X-Files: The Gossamer Project had 33,758 stories as of March 2007. I have no clue how many there are now, but more than that. I'm guessing they passed 40,000. Plus various and sundry specialty archives that were saved by the fandom and relocated when geocities closed. It's kind of amazing, really.

My first reaction to the megafandoms list is that I think bandom should be included, but it's a difficult fandom to quantify in terms of fic. There's no central comm or archive. The fandom newsletter [livejournal.com profile] dotcoms_refresh keeps track of links via a pinboard account which has 18304 links tagged 'fiction' but doesn't include works in progress or fics under 500 words. In addition, while some bands under the 'bandom' umbrella have tons of fic - My Chemical Romance and Panic at the Disco each have over 10000 fics tagged by dotcoms_refresh - a lot of bandom bands are really under-represented, like Empires or Gym Class Heroes. So having looked at all that, I'm not entirely sure whether it should count as a megafandom or not. But I thought I'd bring it to your attention anyway, because it probably should be considered.

I think this is an excellent decision! Thanks for taking the time to consider it.

DCU comics - Batfamily. Which I'm not sure how to phrase, because there's no nice neat 20k-fic collection in any one place, and lots and lots of individual author and single-pairing archives with anywhere from a few dozen to several hundred fics each.

FF.net: 6500 fics listed. (For comicsverse; Dark Night movieverse has almost 5000 of its own.)

[livejournal.com profile] dcfic_index: over 4000 memories, which is how it lists fics.

AO3: 3000+ fics for DCU Comicsverse . (A lot of authors use DCU comicsverse instead of individual comic titles, because a lot of stories crossover between several titles.)

I'd give a couple of delicious links but I cannot find a damn thing on their new system. Can't figure out how to stack tags to get more than one at a time. However, basic search for Batman gets over 20k links; I can't figure out how to sort fic from art from other things.
